Graduate Study in Floristics, Rocky Mountain Herbarium
Current project available for summers 2013 and 2014: Flora of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, Nez
Perce National Forest (East central Idaho).
The Rocky Mountain Herbarium seeks students interested in pursuing a M.S. degree in broad-scale floristics. Successful applicants are expected to be highly motivated and physically fit, capable of working with limited supervision (following a period of training and subsequent assistance in the field). They must be competitive with other applicants to the Department of Botany for financial support ─ generally a GRE score of >154 (>1200) for verbal/quantative and a GPA of 3.2.
The RM has completed 62 (49 with graduate students) inventories (>600,000 numbered collections) in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming over the past 33 years. The goal is to document, in fine detail, the distributions of all vascular plants species throughout the Rocky Mountain region. The RM/RMS/USFS contain >950,000 accessions and a backlog of >250,000 collections. Our website hosts >700,000 specimen records and >35,000 specimen images.
Recent/current floristic inventories include: Vermejo Park, NM; e. slope, Wind River Range, WY; Grand Teton NP, WY; Cimarron/Comanche NG, KS/CO; Beartooth Mtns., MT/WY; Pryor Mtns., MT; Lewis and Clark NF, MT; Custer NF, MT/SD; Salmon-Challis NF, ID; Beaverhead NF, MT; BLM lands, Valley and Phillips Cos., MT; White River NF, CO; greater Montrose region, w.
