[Taxacom] e-publication in botany/mycology

Yes, but there has been an extensive discussion on the matter in Melbourne last summer at the Congress and a final vote where the language has been projected. The interested parties have been there, a very democratic process (and very impressive from the view of a participating zoologist).

Hi Bevan,
I am a little surprised that the botanists/mycologists are charging ahead with e-publication without, it seems, really knowing what they are doing!
"I'm sorry officer, but I don't have the law on this matter written down, so I don't know the exact wording!!"
Cheers,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

I am co-author on the other three papers in that issue of SIM, as far as I know the pagination will not change. There is a dedication to go in the beginning, but a quick check of vol. 64 shows that dedications have no page numbers.

I certainly consider it published, but the MycoBank numbers are not live yet, perhaps an oversight at MycoBank.

The trouble is that we still don't have a published version of the Melbourne Code out yet in which these changes to rules of publication were made, so I don't know the exact wording.

Cheers,

Bevan

No, I don't have a problem with it at all! I am just trying to find out if this is "published" according to the ICBN, of which I know little. The situation here is analogous to how they publish EarlyView in Systematic Entomology, but the ICBN rules may be different. Does it matter that the PDF will change when it gets assigned to an issue and paginated?

Cheers, Stephen

Looks good to me. Names, detailed descriptions, holotypes specified, Mycobank number, date of publication stated: August 22, 2012. As a bonus, lots of illustrations and sequence data. Do you have a problem with it? If so, what is it?
Mary
