Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung has an international
reputation in all fields of Natural History research. It runs six
research institutes and two museums in Germany and is also custodian of
the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Messel.
 
Senckenberg Research Institute and Nature Museum in Frankfurt am Main,
department Marine Zoology, Marine Evertebrates I, is in search for a
scientific employer to assist and actively cooperate in our research
project “Prosperity and limitation of sponge fauna on the former
ice-shelf Larsen A-B and adjacent areas west of the Antarctic
Peninsula”. This project is designed to analyze the impact of climate
change on the diversity of Porifera within the Antarctic shelf
communities and their response to the disintegration of permanent
ice-shelves. The Department of Marine Zoology jointly invites
applications for a 
 
Scientific employee / PH-D student
(Ref. #01-13017)
 
Your tasks: 
·          Comparative morphology based taxonomy of Antarctic Porifera
·          Construction of matrices based on morphological diagnostic
characters of sponges, generation and assessment of phylogenetic threes
·          Detailed faunistic comparisons between the different sponge
faunas, including statistical survey and data analysis
·          Taxonomic and ecological evaluation of underwater
photography documents
·          Participation in collections work during research vessels
expeditions (as far as possible)
·          Writing of publications
·          Assistance in the collections management
·          Supervision and assistance of students and technical
employees in special preparation techniques
 
Your profile:
·          Master of Science in biology or a related field
·          Excellent knowledge in taxonomy, systematics and ecology of
aquatic invertebrates
·          Experience in comparative morphological studies
·          Experience in morphological preparation techniques
·          Knowledge in statistics
·          Very good written and oral communication skills 
·          Ability to work independently; physical and mental
endurance, high motivation 
·          Disposition for participation in marine ships expeditions
(when applicable)
·          Disposition for team work
 
Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in
Germany (TV-H E13, 65%). The contract shall start as soon as possible
and will be initially restricted to 2 years. The Senckenberg Research
