Eragrostis is a large genus, widespread and common in Africa. Most keys to the various taxa rely heavily on the manner of disarticulation of the spikelet, a character for which mature spikelets have to be investigated. As the available material is often young and immature, difficulties with identification are encountered and alternative characters have to be implemented. The usefulness of some features of the palea were tested and it was found that the keels and width of the margins may be a practical solution.

All the best.
