Symposium Date and Locality
The symposium will be held at the Universidad Estatal Amazónica, Puyo, Pastaza, Ecuador,
27-29 May, 2015 - Scientific program (3 days)

Spanish, English or Portuguese are valid languages for the symposium. Simultaneous translation will be
provided during the plenary and oral sessions.
Registration Fees
The registration fees include symposium material fees, meal fees and symposium excursion fees, but not the
Post-Symposium Botanical Excursion.

Symposium Excursion
The symposium excursions (during the scientific program, 27-29 May) are planned to visit the Centro de
Investigación Posgrado y Conservación Amazónica (CIPCA), and the herbarium ECUAMZ of the Universidad
Estatal Amazónica. Participants will have opportunities to see species of Magnolia in their native habitat of
Neotropical forests, such as M. kichuana, and M. pastazaensis. At the same time, participants will enjoy the
beautiful scenery of the Andes and Ecuadorian Amazonia (the transport and entrance fees are included in the
registration fees).
Post-Symposium Excursion
An optional 4-day excursion (May 30-June 2, 2015) will be scheduled to the Cordillera del Cóndor, Zamora-
Chinchipe province in southeastern Ecuador, the richest region in the Neotropics in terms of species diversity of
the genus Magnolia. Participants will have the opportunity to visit the unique forests of the sandstone mountains,
the "Andean tepuis", with locally endemic species including Magnolia yantzazana, M. bankardiorum subsp.
tepuialtoensis, and M. shuarorum.
Abstract and Papers
Participants are invited to submit an abstract of 500-1000 words summarizing original and/or unpublished
research results on the above and other related topics before the deadline of 28 February 2015. Contributed
papers may be presented as oral presentations or as posters. All submitted abstracts must be written in English
and will be reviewed for quality, originality and relevance by the Scientific Committee. The Scientific
Committee will notify the authors of the accepted abstracts. Papers presented in the Symposium will be eligible
for publication in the Symposium Proceedings.
Second Circular
The Second Circular will be posted in December 2014. It will include information about registration,
accommodations, field trips, post-symposium excursions, and details about contributed papers. Potential
participants are encouraged to contact the Secretariat, Dr. Antonio Vázquez, jvazquez at cucba.udg.mx before
December 15 2014 to ensure receipt of the Second Circular.
