[Taxacom] Achelia echinata species complex

Roni Robbins, colleague of Roger Bamber, tells me

... This phrase seems to come from a paper written by Joel Hedgpeth (an eminent
Pycnogonid scientist) and repeated by King & Crapp (1971) in their paper
"Littoral Pycnogonids of the British Isles".

Hedgpeth, J. W. (1963) Pycnogonida of the North American Arctic. J. Fish.
Res. Bd. Can. 20: 1315-1348.

King, P.E. & Crapp, G. B. (1971) Littoral Pycnogonids of the British Isles.
3: 455-480

For recent keys to NE Atlantic Pycnogonids see:

Bamber, R.N. (2010) Sea Spiders (Pycnogonida) of the north-east Atlantic. Synopses of the British Fauna (New Series) No. 5 (2nd Edn). Linnean Society of London, 249 pp.

Hi all,

Ive been doing some work with Achelia echinata recently and noticed the
same phrase "may be part of a large species-complex in the Northern
Hemisphere, spreading from the Arctic almost to the Equator" popping up
on a variety of online resources. I've only had a cursory glance at the
literature but can't seem to find any taxanomic or systematic literature
on the topic and was wondering if anyone knew of any work done that
these assertions may be based on.

Thanks in advance,

Adam
