[Taxacom] How "confident" was Linnaeus?

Dear Taxacomers:

Somewhere I may have overheard that towards the end of his active
career, Linnaeus (who I gather named ~ 12,000 species) stated something
along the lines of:

(1) the majority of species on earth had been documented by now (and
largely by him); and

(2) temperate (European?) regions are more diverse than the tropics?

Is there any substance to ascribing these views to Linnaeus? Verifiable
quotes in on-line resources? Or is this wrong?

Thanks for considering, Nico
