Well, it is not a nomenclatural difference. Both the 
zoological and 'botanical' Codes prescribe that author 
citation is not part of the name, and merely lead by 
example. The example they set is to include the year.

There is no general 'taxonomic practice', as can be seen
in the author citation for algae, fungi and plants: some
publications use the recommended standard forms for
authors ("L."), while others don't ("Linnaeus"). So, this 
becomes a matter of tracking different points of view ...
