[Taxacom] survey - US Master's students exams

Apologies if this is too tangential to taxonomy...

Do any of you know of any US universities that hold an exam for
Master's-degree seeking students at or near the start of their program?
The goal of such an exam would be to identify potential deficiencies in
prior training in biology and to assign coursework to remedy them?
