The Royal Horticultural Society is looking for someone to lead, manage and develop their horticultural taxonomy team to deliver a programme of research and advisory support for members to realise the RHS Vision and Science Strategy, in particularly theme 1 of the Science Strategy: A global knowledge bank for gardening and garden plants (https://www.rhs.org.uk/science/pdf/rhs-science-strategy-2015-2019)
Location: RHS Garden Wisley
Salary: 37,142 GBP
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Contract Type: Permanent - UK and EU citizens

We are looking for someone who will promote horticultural taxonomy through publication and will seek funding to undertake research that enhances the RHS's profile as a centre of excellence in horticultural taxonomy. A first degree in a relevant biological or horticultural science, plus a PhD or equivalent experience is required. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate to scientists and the public, will be able to lead and manage a team as well as work effectively as part of a team.
The RHS's horticultural taxonomy team is internationally recognised for the naming and characterisation of ornamental cultivated plants and through this work promotes the conservation, cultivation and use of UK garden plants. The team works on the RHS Plant Finder, the RHS Horticultural Monographs series and is developing a major project to create an online resource on all cultivated plants grown in UK and Ireland. This project is linked to the new purpose-built National Centre for Horticultural Science and Learning at RHS Wisley, due to open in 2020.
