[Taxacom] Cicindela in Australia

The issue is complicated. Neocicindela is endemic to N.Z., but it has been given generic rank (again!) by Larochelle & Larivière (2013), who split it into two genera, the other genus being their new genus Zecicindela. The problem is that the sister taxon of these are an Australian taxon which is still treated as a subgenus of Cicindela. There appears to be lots of disagreement about taxon ranks in tiger beetles, some taxonomists even retaining family status for the group!

 Hello Vratislav,

I am no expert on beetles, but
the relevant page on Cicindela in Atlas of
Living Australia (which draws its name
 information from the Australian
 Faunal
Directory or AFD) looks like this:

 Cicindela
 subgenus Cicindela
 (Antennaria) Dokhtouroff, 1883
 subgenus
 Cicindela (Archidela) Rivalier, 1963
 subgenus Cicindela (Cylindera) Westwood,
 1831
 subgenus Cicindela (Euzona) Rivalier,
 1963
 subgenus Cicindela (Grandopronotalia)
 Horn, 1936
 subgenus Cicindela (Hypaetha)
 LeConte, 1860
 subgenus Cicindela
 (Macfarlandia) Sumlin, 1981
 subgenus
 Cicindela (Micromentignatha) Sumlin, 1981
 subgenus Cicindela (Myriochile) Motschulsky,
 1861
 subgenus Cicindela (Rivacindela)
 Brouerius van Nidek, 1973
 subgenus Cicindela
 subg. Neocicindela

I tried to source the same
information directly from AFD (which gives a
fuller explanation for taxonomic decisions in
 some cases) but the latter
 appeared to be
 offline at the moment.

 I
note that in Wikipedia there are some 16 additional
 subgenera listed for
 Cicindela. You would
have to check these names individually in ALA / AFD to
see if any of these are included in the present
 Australian species list and
 if so, at what
 rank.

 Best regards -
 Tony
