On 13th March 2020, Dr. Jose María Gabriel y Galán, one of the most
important pteridologist of the Iberian Peninsula passed away unexpectedly.

Jose María always kept a close connection to teaching while developing

University of Madrid (Spain). His deep botanical vocation was directed
towards the world of ferns, where he excelled in various Polypodiopsida

His colleagues and students will always remember him as a a great

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
